Steampunk Skirmish Wargaming Rules

This is a set of skirmish rules for games with two or more players fielding a small number of figures per side, usually between five and twenty, though there is no set minimum or maximum number. The key design philosophy has been simplicity. The idea is that the players can learn the rules in a few minutes and then get on with the game.

The game is based in the realm of classic Victorian Science Fiction and the more modern development of ‘Steampunk’. The genre is heavily inspired by the works of H.G Wells, Jules Verne, Bram Stoker, Rudyard Kipling, Mary Shelley, Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Rice Burroughs et al.

Each player forms an Adventuring Company led by a heroic officer, a devious foreign agent or one of a selection of other protagonists. They pit their forces against other companies to advance the power and glory of their nations or causes – and perhaps for a handsome reward as well.

It is 1895 and the world is in turmoil. The Great Powers compete for resources and the latest technology and, an undeclared and secret war rages between them all. This is the battleground of the Adventuring Companies. These clandestine agents of the Great Powers operate in the shadows, matching skills and wits in pursuit of the newest scientific formulae or powerful occult artefacts.

In Her Majesty’s Name is a narrative skirmish game published by Osprey Wargames. It is set in a world that could have been and is based on contemporary Victorian Science Fiction.

 

These rules allow you to create a company either from those provided or one of your own devising, then fight the secret war that is is being waged between the Great Imperial powers and upstart nations.

So far there have been two supplements to the original rules;
– Heroes, Villains & Fiends; which expands the horizons of the game to encompass Africa and North America.
– Sleeping Dragon, Rising Sun; which takes the game east to the Indian subcontinent, China and, Japan.

Please note that these rules already have another supplement as well supplement – IHMN Gothic, which explores Victorian Horror.
